Winter Immunity and Health Space Family Update!

The Wood Family

I hope you are all enjoying Winter while we are up in sunny Cairns, swimming most days! The warmer weather has been very beneficial for Nick’s recovery from asthma.

This month’s newsletter has some great information on how to beat the Winter blues and improve your immune system function. People often ask me how we keep our family so healthy during Winter. Just like a summer body is made in Winter and Spring, a healthy functioning immune system is made in Summer / Autumn. In summer ensure you get outside and ground your bare feet, swim in the negative ions of the ocean and build up your vitamin D stores with healthy sunshine exposure. If you are someone that does tend to get sick as the season changes then you can try taking some immune boosting supplements BEFORE the cold hits! So keep that in mind for next year.

In the meantime, some great basic tips to improve immune function ( now we are into the full swing of Winter) are to ensure you are getting quality sleep, stay hydrated with filtered water, avoid drinking cold drinks, add a cup of bone broth to your daily menu, minimise your sugar intake (as sugar suppresses immune function), minimise stress (try meditating – my fave is the Calm APP or get a massage). Other tips are to have some acupuncture ( it’s particularly amazing for moving congestion and decreasing sinus pain), and take an immune boosting supplement or herbs such as Bioceuticals Armaforce, Chinese herbs, Naturopathic liquid herbs, olive leaf extract, vitamin C (try liposomal C for better absorption), zinc, echinacea or andrograhis to name a few.

This month at Health Space, we are speaking about families. As we have expanded over the years, we often get asked whether we are a Franchise or how the business structure works. People are usually very surprised by our answer. We are not a Franchise, we are not a license agreement, we are a family owned and operated business looking after families. We consider every member of our team as part of our family and as we have grown we now have partners in some of the clinics. These partners must have been working within our family for at least 4 years and be congruent with the Health Space way before they have the opportunity to be invited as a partner. From there they become a partner in our family co-op set up. They own a percentage of a clinic, do a percentage of the work and get paid that same percentage as income. It’s very simple.

The advantage of sharing our family with like minded professionals is that we can expand and help more people. The advantage for our team is that they get to work in a well established business with access to sharing everything from staff, to resources, and of course, being well looked after both on and off the table. Our family is further expanded to our very valued clients. Our team and our clients are our families by choice. We value each and every person who walks in our doors. At the end of the day, we are a business that must make money to survive just like any other. But the main difference is that we love what we do, and do what we love so that most of the time it doesn’t feel like a job at all. Thanks to you all for contributing and being part of our family.
