Low level laser therapy or “cold laser”, stimulates cellular repair. It’s a non-invasive and non-drug treatment for nearly all musculoskeletal conditions. There are no known side-effects and it’s painless to receive, so patients of all ages are eligible for treatment. If you have a sprain, strain or pain that won’t resolve, your cells are in a state known as oxidative stress and the mitochondria within the cell can’t produce energy as it should. When certain wavelengths of light and certain doses are applied to the injured or painful area, oxidative stress is relieved, returning the cell to a healthy state. The mitochondria can resume production of ATP energy and the body’s healing response is stimulated.

Therapeutic laser is painless to receive and you will sit or lie comfortably during treatment. Lasting improvement from laser comes from cumulative treatment so we encourage patients to begin with two treatments per week for two weeks before reassessing. With nearly all patients, we quickly move to weekly or fortnightly treatment before a further reassessment. The total number of treatments you require is dependent on many variables including the complexity of your condition, how long you’ve sustained it and so on.

Laser can be a standalone therapy or incorporated into a broader program.
