At Healthspace Clinics, many patients are referred for physiotherapy for having sprained their ankle. Some sprains can be quite minor while others can be very severe. In either case, the most frequently asked question we receive as physios, is without doubt, when can I play again? As naturally everyone is keen to recover and resume their regular activity as quickly as possible.
Now, generally speaking, an ankle sprain will need at least 4-6 weeks to recover. Our Physiotherapists assist this process through strapping, compression, manual therapy techniques and a well-constructed exercise rehabilitation program.
However, does this mean we are done with treatment? A study in 2008 showed the risk of suffering from an ankle sprain is higher in those with a previous history of ankle sprains.
That said, there is plenty physiotherapists that we can do to help you recovery fully and prevent future injury. The evidence says that a proprioception / balance based program under the guide of a physio can reduce the likelihood of ankle sprains from occurring again.
Our highly experienced physiotherapists at Healthspace clinics, located in Bondi, Burwood, Kingsford, Mona Vale and Potts Point, will not only help to manage your pain in that early, acute phase, but help you return to work or sport under the correct guidance and as quick as possible.
See the Experts, and let us help you.
