What is the Pub2Pub Charity Fun Run and why community members should get involved?
The Pub2Pub Charity Fun Run & Festival is an iconic annual event on the northern beaches, now in its 26th year. Organised by Rotary of Brookvale, the sole purpose of the Pub2Pub each year is to raise much needed funds for worthy local charities. Across those 26 years, the event has raised over $3.5 million dollars for wonderful organisations including Life Education Australia, Northern Beaches Interchange (NBI), Surf Life Saving Northern Beaches, Without A Ribbon, Bear Cottage, Cerebral Palsey Alliance and Sunnyfield. HealthSpace members should get involved to help raise further funds for charity, but also because the event itself, run over the most picturesque course of any such event in Sydney, is just so much fun, with a true feeling of community spirit evident from the starting line to the big festival at the finish.
What are some of the benefits that the community can expect from attending this event?
Taking part in the Pub2Pub Charity Fun Run & Festival will provide a great sense of purpose in raising funds to support great local charities. Improved health and fitness by training for and running in the event is also a great benefit to the community. Gain an increased sense of community as some 5,000 people participate and enjoy each other’s company at the Finish Festival at Newport Beach. It is also a great opportunity to bond with friends and family over shared personal achievement.
What are some of the community needs that the event aims to address?
The support of important local charities is the event’s raison d’etre. These charities address a wide variety of community needs which range from supporting children and adults with disabilities and illness, Helping generations of healthy young Australians to live to their full potential and providing a valuable Surf Life Saving service to the local community.
What can community members expect from attending this event?
A fun day out helping good causes, a stunning run along and above beautiful beaches, and a fun festival with a great vibe at the finish line. The festival includes food and drink stalls, live music, activities for kids.
How should attendees prepare for the event?
We have a whole series of videos prepared by former World Ironman Champion, Guy Leech (www.pub2pub.com.au/about/training-tips/). In essence, sensible training for the course distance over which you choose to participate – 3km, 6km, 13km. You can take advantage of the many special offers made available by our valued sponsors for participants (from food and beverage vouchers, to free training programs from quality gyms, to special deals on new running shoes). Encouraging friends and family to join you on the day or to support your efforts to raise funds is a great way to get the most out of the event.
