Is stress keeping you from a Baywatch worthy body?

by Tim Robards

Casting call! Beach ready bodies that look great in the colour red! A remake of Baywatch is currently underway and they’re shooting as I write this. Most of us who grew up in the 1990’s have flicked over at some stage in our lives and been sucked into the tacky world of saving humanity one mouth-to-mouth resuscitation at a time. For many of us back then, especially the hormone charged teenagers, the thought of being rescued on a beach by C.J. Parker or carried to safety by the strapping Logan, was the equivalent of being sweated on by a band member at a One Direction concert. Or was that just me? Haha!

To change your body’s composition, maximise your fat burning ability, achieve clearer skin and a summer glow - your hormonal system needs to be balanced by treating any external stressors in your daily life.

Is your partner making you fat?

by Tim Robards

We’ve all seen the process unfold at one time or another and heard the jokes that people throw around either at their own expense or someone else’s. You may have even felt the brunt of it yourself and questioned ‘is this just the process of getting older?’ Or ‘is this what is meant to happen?’

You don't need me to tell you that its quite common for couples to pile on the weight after marriage.   One study carried out by The North American Association for the study of Obesity (NAASO), found that couples who transitioned from being single or dating to cohabitation or marriage were more likely to become obese than those who were still classified as dating. The obesity related behaviours were strongest for those who were married or living together for greater than 2 years.

The 15 Second Exercise That May Change Your Health For Good!

by Tim Robards

Excuses… excuses… excuses… We’re good at making them, but who really believes them? When it comes to exercise, I’ve heard every excuse in the book. From ‘its too cold’, to ‘my dog chewed up my runners’ to ‘I can’t afford a gym membership’. The point is there’s usually a solution to our problems, but we don’t quite put much energy into solving it, hehe!

Regular movement is a requirement of good health. Regular exercise is a requirement to excellent health. If you want either, you have to at least get moving. One thing that rings true for me is the old saying… People forget what you say, they forget what you do, but they always remember how they made you feel. The same is true for exercise and can be used to get you motivated. Try this simple technique that takes less than 15 seconds if you are lacking motivation.

Should I Train When I’m Sick?

by Tim Robards

You wake up, and your first swallow tastes like a mixture of cotton wool and like you’ve gargled all night with red hot chillies. A runny nose and some achey muscles…To train or not to train? Do I use it as an excuse to interrupt the new fitness regime I'm on or do I brave through it?

As far as breeding grounds for germs go, gyms are right up there. We are touching the same handgrips, gloves and mats and then wiping the sweat from our face, eyes and mouth repeatedly. Lucky for most of us, we live in a part of the world where our immune systems are not struck down by famine and lack of quality drinking water. However, most of us lead a fast paced lifestyle and tend to burn the candle at both ends, compromising our immune system. You stress yourself out trying to meet a work deadline, then go out and smash yourself at the local bar to celebrate, and a day later you’re taking time off work because you think someone may have sneezed on you… We can all usually attribute getting sick to a time when we pushed our immune system to its limit rather than the unlucky whiff of a sneeze we walk into.

How Do I Make Running Easier?

by Tim Robards

The weather is cooling down slightly while the sun is still out most days, making it a perfect cocktail for a run on the rocks or the grass! We can now wear our body hugging compression gear to show off our curves and lines without our makeup running with our excessive sweating (oh, hang on, that probably only happens in Bondi).

For the keen runners clocking over 10 km a day, and even the novices trying to avoid the cab drivers with a death wish, there is a lot of debate around whether or not lifting weights slows you down. The answer is: yes it can… But it can also speed you up and help you avoid injury!

Should I Go To Bed Hungry If I’m Trying To Lose Weight?

by Tim Robards

Should I Go To Bed Hungry If I’m Trying To Lose Weight?

This is one of those food myths that in some ways has some validation, but honestly, there are more important considerations when it comes to keeping off the excess fat.
