o has been practising Iyengar Yoga since the 90's. After starting a beginners Iyengar course in London she has never looked back. Always interested in healthy living and body movements, yoga came to her naturally. After becoming a serious Iyengar student she decided to train as a teacher with lots of passion. She has now encouraged her husband and young daughter to take up their yoga journeys.
Jo has such a love for Iyengar yoga and helping people with getting started into yoga and then deepening their practice. She loves teaching and living on the beautiful Northern Beaches. She teaches regular Iyengar Yoga classes for beginners or experienced students and kids classes for age 5-12. Her dream is to see Kids Yoga being part of the NSW sports curriculum in primary schools, "It is astonishing how young kids get stressed so early on these days and how their bodies stiffen with the stress and then causing problems, if every child did yoga, the world would be a better place!"
In 2011 and 2013 Jo spent a month in Pune, India at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute for intensive practise with the Iyengar family.
Iyengar yoga makes you become aware of your body (inside and out). Starting with your posture....Iyengar yoga strengthens and tones the muscles and because we work with such precision and alignment it helps strong sporty bodies, injuries, stiffness, illnessess and bad habits of "life". There are different poses that help internally ie liver, heart, digestive system, soothing organs, stimulating organs, helping with pregnancy and the menstrual cycle. There are certain poses you must not do when you are menstruating or pregnant and in my classes I would always look after and nurture the ladies but still making them work hard so they get the benefit.
Jo's classes run for one and a half hours (90mins) and her kids classes 45 minutes.
All Yoga Classes are now located at Mona Vale Surf Club
