It’s the end of the year, you have deadlines, and Christmas is coming. It’s supposed to be one of the most joy filled time of the year, but it usually doesn’t feel like it! If you’re a parent, there are too many weeks of the school holidays to juggle. For most adults finances are stretched and your relationship could use a boost. For many, this time of the year feels like the most stressful part of the year!
My own personal experience with stress is what led me to explore acupuncture, and I found it to have many stress relieving effects. I had recently returned from a year living in Indonesia, mainly Bali, where I was so happy. Even though I had succumbed to digestive illness, there was so much love from all the people and their positive culture I really missed that when I returned to Australia and ended up becoming depressed. I chanced upon a healing centre in the city and decided to have a treatment….. Well, I floated out on a cloud! And right then and there I decided that I just HAD to learn how to do acupuncture, so I could help other people feel as good!
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), of which acupuncture and herbs comprise two parts, is very effective in relieving stress, with associated symptoms like difficulty sleeping, problems with digestion, fatigue, anxiety or depression. The reason for this is, according to acupuncture theory, that stress causes an imbalance in the body’s energy and causes the qi to become stuck or stagnant. In order for it to flow freely and to restore harmonious balance it needs to be unblocked. By stimulating the appropriate points, the qi can flow freely and the physical symptoms of stress can be alleviated.
Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine can also relieve mental stress such as anxiety and worrying too much. Most people who get regular acupuncture treatments will tell you that they feel relaxed and peaceful during and after treatment and also seem to handle the big and small stresses and challenges of life more easily.
